Hypno-CBT®

The Hypno-CBT® model is an integration of social, cognitive and behavioural psychology and psychotherapy with a contemporary approach to hypnosis. Hypno-CBT® is an “evidence-based” approach to hypnotherapy. The approach is esteemed within the profession and is widely known for its scientific approach as well as being accredited and recognized by several of the leading organizations in the field including:

·       NCFE Level 4 Hypnotherapy Diploma (national examining & awarding body)

·       The General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR)

·       The Register for Evidence-Based Hypnotherapy (REBHP)

·       The National Council of Hypnotherapy (NCH)

·       The Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT)

·       Accredited Counselors, Coaches, Psychotherapists and Hypnotherapists (ACCPH)

·       The British Psychological Society Learning Centre (BPS)

The methods used are based on research into the characteristics of hypnosis and clinical research into the efficacy of hypnosis, CBT, mindfulness and the integration of hypnosis and CBT. The fusion of hypnosis, CBT and mindfulness generates a powerful toolset that creates an integrated mind-body psychotherapy approach which helps clients to effect deeper and longer lasting change, healing the divide that exists between mind & body (psychology & physiology).

Advancements in techniques and our understanding have concentrated on the combination of hypnotherapy and CBT.  An influential publication in 1996 by Irvine Kirsch et al.  compared the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioural hypnotherapy to CBT alone – the study found that in 70-90% of clients, cognitive and behavioural therapies were more successful when combined with hypnosis.  This means that for the majority of people cognitive-behavioural hypnotherapy is superior to CBT alone. Alladin and Alibhai (2007), study on CBT compared to CBT with hypnosis for depression also found that the CBT with hypnosis was surpassed CBT alone.
